Senior Product Manager

At Bayer we’re visionaries, driven to solve the world’s toughest challenges and striving for a world where ‘Health for all, Hunger for none’ is no longer a dream, but a real possibility. We’re doing it with energy, curiosity and sheer dedication, always learning from unique perspectives of those around us, expanding our thinking, growing our capabilities and redefining ‘impossible’. There are so many reasons to join us. If you’re hungry to build a varied and meaningful career in a community of brilliant and diverse minds to make a real difference, there’s only one choice.

As a Product Manager, you ensure that products fulfill their primary purpose: to enable users to perform tasks that create value for the company. In this role, you will have two broad areas of responsibility:

  • Setting the strategic vision for the product to ensure the customer and their needs are at the center.
  • Ensuring team priorities support business outcomes for customer, product, technical, and enabling teams.

To successfully manage these areas of responsibility, you must have a deep understanding of the product domain, related technology, and architecture.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Lead a cross-functional product team made up of IT and R&D experts (biologists, chemists, pharmacologists) and contribute your natural science experience.
  • Translate complex scientific business needs into user journeys and technical requirements by gathering and interpreting stakeholder input; your scientific background enables accurate assessment and robust solution design.
  • Prioritize key problems and limit scope to focus on the highest-value work, evaluating the expected impact of proposed solutions.
  • Frame engineering work by turning business problems into testable hypotheses about underlying user needs; using your scientific training to clarify requirements.
  • Drive the design, build, and continuous delivery of digital products in a fast-paced Pharma R&D environment.
  • Proactively share insights with product team members, scientists, and stakeholders to inform decisions, align expectations, and enable transparency.
  • Define and drive product visions with measurable business impact, leveraging scientific knowledge to align IT product strategy with R&D goals.
  • Detect risks and gaps during development cycles and help design mitigation strategies to ensure the team meets product objectives.

Who You Are

  • You hold a Master’s degree in Natural Sciences (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics); a Ph.D. is highly desirable.
  • You have several years of experience as a Product Manager or Requirements Engineer in an agile environment, ideally in scientific or R&D domains.
  • You demonstrate excellent leadership skills and show entrepreneurial behavior in your daily work.
  • You bring extensive hands-on experience in scientific work and are familiar with the processes in research and development. Experience at the interfaces between science, engineering, and IT is a plus.
  • You have strong experience with agile and lean principles and bring practical expertise in requirement engineering and designing digital products.
  • You are deeply familiar with research workflows, scientific problem-solving, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • You are resilient, comfortable navigating ambiguous situations, and approach challenges from multiple perspectives.
